Luxury Vinyl Tile Flooring (LVT)

Luxury Vinyl Tile is becoming extremely popular for both residential and commercial applications. Although unknown to many homeowners luxury vinyl tile (also called LVT) has been around for a while in Europe and some other countries. Today, you will find a wide selection of LVT brands in almost every specialty flooring store and large home building chains.

You can find luxury vinyl tile being used in many major commercial applications, such as retail chains, offices, commercial lobbies, etc. It is also growing with many homeowners as a popular alternative to ceramic tile, laminate and natural wood floors.

So what is Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT)?

Luxury Vinyl Tile is actually a man-made flooring product that falls into the resilient flooring category. This is not sheet vinyl, nor is it printed, self-stick vinyl tile. There seems to be two types of luxury vinyl tile on the market. One has a limestone composite and is fairly rigid, while the other type appears to be a vinyl base that is more flexible and not as rigid. The use of the word “tile” in LVT is somewhat confusing since some LVTs are offered in both planks and tiles.

LVT is extremely durable, water -resistant, as well as scratch and stain resistant. It is also much warmer and quieter under foot than traditional ceramic tile, stone or slate floors. Because of its inherent resiliency luxury vinyl tile is more forgiving when objects are dropped on the surface than ceramic tile.

Here is a good example that will help you understand what is LVT:
